Upper St Leonards-on-Sea Pub Trail - 2022

CAMRA's Members' Weekend, AGM & Conference, was held in Eastbourne during April 2022 - these pages were produced for visiting members

Four pubs are close to each other in the Bohemia and Silverhill areas of north St Leonards-on-Sea. Six pubs nearer to Warrior Square station are listed in a separate trail.

Click on the links to open a pub's WhatPub page, where you can find further details, Google maps and precise satnav coordinates.

From Warrior Square station and the lower St Leonard pubs, walk 15 minutes, or take a bus (20, 22, 22A & 24), north along London Road.

The Tower is not to be missed: for the six years up to 2020, it was either the local Pub-of-the-Year or runner up and offers six real ales (251 London Road, TN37 6NB, 12 minutes walk from the station)
Buses 20, 22, 22A & 24 - alight at Tower Road

Walk up Tower Road, turn left and then right into Upper South Road and the
North Star is at the end on your right (Clarence Road, TN37 6SD, 4 mins)

The North Star has been fully refurbished inside and out and now offers up to three real ales. Plenty of new comfortable seats.

From the North Star walk back down to Bohemia Road and turn right, after about 10 minutes you will be in the Silverhill area, fork right just after the Clarence, walking past several shops, pass Chatham Road and Vale Road, then you will see the
Welcome (56 Seddlescombe Road North, TN37 7DA, 12 mins)

The Welcome (originally the Welcome Stranger) was refurbished a few years ago and now offers an excellent menu and up to three real ales – always from local breweries.

Turn right out of the Welcome and walk up Sedlescombe Road North, crossing on the pedestrian crossing and continue to then enter Duke Street.

The Duke is on the right (48 Duke Road, TN37 7DN, 3 mins)

The Duke was fully refurbished during the 2020 lockdown and now offers two East Sussex beers from Gun at a very reasonable price.

To return to Warrior Square station head back down Sedlescombe Road North. At the Asda junction bear left and walk down the main London Road. At the next set of lights follow the signs to St Leonards, taking the right fork, continuing along London Road, not the main A21. You will pass the Tower again!
Stagecoach buses 20, 22, 22A & 24 from just south of the Clarence call close to the station

Sussex branches very much appreciate local and visiting members rating the beers and real ciders they sample. Scores can be recorded on Pubzilla or WhatPub. CAMRA's beer-scoring system helps us select pubs for the Good Beer Guide and other awards
