CAMRA's Members' Weekend, AGM & Conference, was held in Eastbourne during April 2022 - these pages were produced for visiting members

The six pubs here are close to each other in the vicinity of St Leonards Warrior Square station. Another four in the Bohemia and Silverhill districts are separately listed.

① The Royal (1 St John's Road, TN37 6HP) was recently refurbished inside and out. Being adjacent to Warrior Square station it offers a pleasant welcome to the area. An award-winning menu and a couple of excellent real ales are usually available Ⓕ

When leaving the Royal walk down Western Road with the Railway pub on your right.

② The Piper is on the right at the bottom of Western Road (1 Norman Road, TN37 6NH, 4 mins walk) Ⓒ

The pub was owned by Scottish & Newcastle but is now a free house and set up as a music venue: bands perform in the upstairs room. The large ground-floor bar offers up to three real ales, usually from local breweries.

③ The Heist is over the road, after Adams and Jarrett and two smaller shops (22-26 Norman Road, TN37 6NH)

Enter Heist Market, turn left and find the Three Legs bar area on the right. Plenty of keg beers, with usually a Three Legs cask too. Formerly a bank, this building is now a food court housing a collection of outlets, each offering a different style of food and drink.

Turn left when leaving the Heist, head over London Road and up Norman Road.

At the top of this road you'll find
④ the Horse and Groom (4 Mercatoria, TN38 0EB, 4 mins)

For many years this has been the best pub for real ale in lower St Leonards. They usually serve three or four real ales at a reasonable price.

When leaving the Horse and Groom head back down Norman Road and take first road on the left, Gensing Road.

⑤ The Nags Head is on the left after about 40 m (8 Gensing Road, TN38 0ER, 2 mins)
     
This local was bought just before Covid and has been fully refurbished inside and out. It now offers five real ales, often some locally sourced. Generally a quiet pub with plenty of comfortable seating and more tables in the rear garden.

When leaving the Nag's Head walk over the road and walk down Shepherd Street.

As you reach London Road,
⑥ the St Leonard is on the right (16-18 London Road, TN37 6AN, 3 mins) Ⓕ

The St Leonard (formerly the Warrior Gate) has been welcoming real ale lovers for several years with up to three served, mainly from local breweries

When leaving the St Leonard turn left, walk up London Road, pass the Co-op and as you approach the Old England on the right you will be able to walk down King’s Road back to St Leonards Warrior Square station (5 mins).

If you would like to pop into the award-winning Tower (251 London Road, TN37 6NB, 15 mins walk) and other upper St Leonards hostelries, remain on London Road and either carry on walking up the road or opposite Kings Road you can catch a bus (20, 22, 22A & 24) and alight at Tower Road, just 3 stops away - see separate Upper St Leonards page.
